The Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, has confirmed she will be questioning temporary Chief Constable Giles York later today about policing at the Balcombe protests.
Last year, 126 people were arrested at the protests outside Cuadrilla’s oil exploration site in the village. Almost all the legal cases arising from the protests are now over. A total of 29 convictions resulted.
Mrs Bourne will question Mr York about the operation at the monthly Performance and Accountability Meeting , which runs from 1-3pm. The meeting is webcast and can be viewed on the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner’s website.
Up to now, Sussex Police has been reluctant to share the lessons learned from the Balcombe protests. The operation was reviewed by Hertfordshire Police but last week Sussex Police’s press office refused to release that document.
