Anti-fracking campaigner wins ‘local hero’ at Observer Ethical Awards

11th June 2014

An 82-year-old anti-fracking campaigner from Greater Manchester has won the ‘Local Hero’ category in this evening’s Observer Ethical Awards.

Anne Power, who walks with a stick, became a well-known participant to police and campaigners at protests against IGas’s exploration site at Barton Moss in Salford. She visited the site nearly every day throughout the winter, taking part in the blockades and helping campers by providing firewood, offering lifts and showers and donating food.
