A 74-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman become the first people to be arrested outside the Egdon Resources oil exploration site at Biscathorpe in Lincolnshire.
Lincolnshire Police said the arrests were made at about 10am today and the pair were taken to Skegness police station.
DrillOrDrop understands the man was charged with obstruction of the highway and the woman with obstructing police.
They are due to appear before Lincoln magistrates on 7 February 2019 and are expected to plead not guilty. A condition of their bail is to not go within five miles of the Biscathorpe site.
Opponents of Egdon’s operation at Biscathorpe have taken part in sit-down and slow walking protests outside the site this week as drilling equipment was delivered.
They have criticised the company’s plans to explore for oil in the Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and next to a protected chalk stream.
Lincolnshire County Council’s planning committee unanimously approved in May 2018 an extension of time for drilling at Biscathorpe after the original permission expired. There were more than 500 objections or petition signatures against the application.

All the head bangers on here regurgitating their bile about what at worst looked like pretty minor offences by two people who happen to be of the older generation might care to recall a simple principle of English criminal law: innocent until proven guilty. The trial is not until February.
The debate about fracking continued to be economic hypes from frackers and environmental and health scaremongering and exaggeration from the anti frackers. Both are using their PR spin doctors to play the public to their agenda. No wonder why >50% of population don’t believe or trust either sides.
(Citation needed) Or did you just make that statistic up, because you were too lazy to check the polls?
I think most people who folllow this subject know what the polls reveal – TW is totally correct within the standard deviation of response
Plenty of coverage today
Leaders of the 10 local authorities within the region of 2.7 million people will write a “presumption” against drilling into their planning policies – creating an effective ban on fracking.

John
I see that in the text of the report, there is no mention of conventional oil wells. Just fracking.
Plus it notes that Manchester declared itself nuclear free in the 1980s, just as Doncaster did. Ie Nuclear ( lcarbon free ) and full on coal positive ( cough cough ). Positions have changed since then, but we can wonder if Manchester is still against nuclear power et al ( now all the coal mines have gone ).
Well well, good morning ladles and jellyspoons, boys and girls, what interesting times we do live in? Perhaps 2019 will be the turning point to this whole fracking and its associated avoidances of the word debacle?
Thanks for the link John, now that councils are allowed to assess new planning applications on climate change grounds, the overwhelming evidence for that would preclude any planning permission for such developments being approved in any circumstances. Now wouldnt that be interesting?
Then of course it would all go back to central government and look what a mess they are in, with EA staff seconded out to deal with the brexit debacle and MP’s franticly jostling for the PM’s job could they afford to overturn such a refusal and add one more farce to their growing incompetent list?
I dont think so, we dont see Claire Perry and Natasha Engel exactly sticking their heads above the parapet to actually talk to the public in any honest and open fashion apart from closed door sessions with the usual corporate suspects?
So, lets see what we can do today to have some fun shall we? It was a couple of weeks over the Christmas break and i was all a bit too busy with families and friends and then covering for staff that had a little bit too much Christmas spirit, and the New Years celebrations had a similar Oh-be-joyful effect? So i didnt get to do any Sunday songs or poems, so lets make up for that today shall we?
Lets see, its the twelfth Sunday of fracking isnt it? Now there is a cue for a song if ever i saw one? Post Christmas i know, but hey! We can have some fun with this?

Have a great Sunday with family and friends, and remember, don’t take it all too seriously, after all, it’s a mad world isn’t it?
[Typos corrected at poster’s request]
It wouldn’t be Sunday without a lengthy installment [edited by moderator] from Phil C.
I see your grasp of French is as weak as your ability to use concise English.
[Original posts corrected with correct French spelling of gilets jaunes]
Aww! Still a fan i see IR8? Did the sense of humour transplant reject you again? Or was this you? Poor lamp post?
As rightly indicated by the post above. Where’s the principle of not guilty until proven. “Presumption” against something indicate an intention to be biased without basis.
Mere Virtue Signalling by Councillors with probably little knowledge of fracking but a readiness to jump on the latest bandwagon.
If they gave half a moments thought to the issues of energy security, reliability, cost and carbon footprint they would reconsider.
Energy costs for their average constituent have risen around 25% in the last year.
I really wish left-wing activists would spend at least some time thinking about how this country earns its living, and less on how they can spend our money.
That’s easy for the government to overrule
Shalewatcher – may last comment was meant as a reply to JP.
I totally agree with you about the left – although I guess they don’t need to think about earning money when they have Jeremys magic money tree to harverst
Depends what government is ‘ruling’; the best this current lot can do is measure a line badly 😉
I think you may find the magic money tree is already in operation…20 billion more by 2023 for the NHS?- now where has that come from I wonder?
https://fullfact.org/health/whos-paying-20-billion-nhs/
It will be all that tax that we will not be paying out for Norwegian gas, Sherwulfe! Simples.
Please explain and reference Marty…
Hello Shalewatcher, you do realise that the accusation of “Virtue Signalling” to others, is, in itself, “Virtue Signalling”? And hence does somewhat defuse the accusation? And since we are in literary mode, the words “probably little knowledge” is somewhat vague and speculative, something else that tends to get accused regularly on Drill or Drop also with no substantiation?
And where does this term “left wing activists” come from? Does that not simply polarise into the sort of camps we were speaking of earlier?
Just thought i would expand on this new policy you suggest of avoiding unnecessary references that polarise arguments?
Now we’re all aware that Biscathorpe isn’t going to be fracked, aren’t we!
2019 of to a GOOD START
Manchester……….one of the biggest combined authorities in the country set’s out plans to ban Fracking.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/jan/04/greater-manchester-tells-fracking-firms-they-are-not-welcome
Re-above post.
I’m aware that you had already made a post on this JOHN POWNEY, on a previous page …..
BUT the news was to good not to share again .
I just hope it’s gets more attention.
Why is it that “good” Jack?
Plenty of publicity seekers around the country “banned” nuclear when they thought that would be popular. Didn’t change a thing.
But, I do understand that is the level of the bar for the antis.
By the way-you still seem to be having problems with your too/to!
MARTIN,
Is that the best you can do ???????
Pull up a spelling error, pitiful, just PITIFUL.. You really are scraping the bottom of the Fracking barrel with that one , you must be very bitter about the GREAT NEWS for MANCHESTER ( A total ban on Fracking.)
Whilst we are on the subject of picking at peoples errors . Are you still having difficulty providing ANY evidence to back up anything you say on this forum ??????
PLEASE remember ladies and gentlemen, everything MARTIN says should only be taken as an opinion …… HE/SHE will never back up anything with evidence, EVER.
I know how you like to fall back on an endless number of what can ONLY be classed as imaginary friends and industry connections to back up your comments , but MARTIN people want evidence…. Will 2019 be the year you finally back up your comments with evidence ???????
Anyway MARTIN , to help fill up your day, I’ve given you a nice long response to work through . I hop yoo enjoy yor day chekin dis four erors.
Spud reported by Egdon.
Full steam ahead for hydrogen trains and Liz Truss and Claire Perry about to arm wrestle!
Now, that’s what I call good news.
