10th June 2014
West Sussex County Council has released details of the programme and participants for its information day on oil and gas development exploration and extraction.
The event is on Saturday 21st June at Pulborough Village Hall and runs from 9.30am to 4.00pm. Participants include: the Environment Agency, Health and Safety Executive, Department for Energy and Climate Change, the County Council and local resident groups affected by oil and gas extraction.
None of the oil or gas companies with drilling licences in West Sussex, such as IGas, Celtique Energie or Cuadrilla, will be taking part. However, the Council said a lecturer at Portsmouth University, John Pucknell, will give the science and technology information session. He was a petroleum engineer for with BP and has, the council said, a “unique insight to the methods used by companies to extract oil and gas.”
