Mr Glover, the former chief operating officer, has been with the company since 2017. He is Star Energy’s third ceo in just over two years. He replaces Chris Hopkinson, who held the role since September 2022.

Before joining Star Energy, Mr Glover ran a UK-based renewable energy project development company. He started his career in mineral processing and mining in southern Africa.

Star Energy’s non-executive chairman, Philip Jackson, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Ross both as a new board member and to his new role as CEO. We are looking forward to working closely with him and the wider team to deliver the next chapter of Star Energy’s development.

“He has great drive and commitment to continue growing the Company’s profitability and future successful transition.”

Star Energy has the largest number of onshore oil and gas sites in the UK. In April it announced falling revenue and profits from its hydrocarbons .

It said its focus would now be on improving the efficiency and increasing profitability of the oil and gas business.
