Angus Energy seeks consent to truck produced water to Brockham wellsite. DrillOrDrop reports that people are being asked to comment on plans by Angus Energy to transport salty water extracted from other oil and gas sites to prolong production at a well in Surrey.

No formal enforcement at Horse Hill oil site, council confirms. DrillOrDrop reports that the Surrey wellsite that unlawfully extracted oil after the Supreme Court quashed its planning permission has not been issued with a formal stop or enforcement notice, the county council confirmed today.

“UK climate policy on a precipice” – report warns. DrillOrDrop reports on a new study which says delays and U-turns on the climate by the last government have left the UK “overly reliant on expensive fossil fuels”.

Four Insulate Britain supporters acquitted. Insulate Britain reports that a jury at Woolwich Crown Court recorded a unanimous not-guilty verdict in a trial of four campaigners accused of common law public nuisance. They had participated in a roadblock on the M25 on 27 September 2021 near Heathrow Airport. The judge allowed the defendants to speak about the climate crisis in their closing speeches.

Campaigners call for stop on oil sales from Supreme Court well site. DrillOrDrop reports on a call by the Weald Action Group, the group which secured a landmark legal judgement on climate emissions from onshore oil, for a block on sales extracted unlawfully at a wellsite in Surrey.

Cop29 agrees $1.3tn climate finance deal but campaigners brand it a ‘betrayal’. The Guardian and many others report the conclusion of the COP29 climate conference with a deal on the climate crisis in the early hours of Sunday morning (Azerbaijan time). The paper says deep divisions remain after the talks ended with agreement to help developing countries shift to a low-carbon economy.

Village reaches funding target for Appeal Court challenge to Balcombe oil test. DrillOrDrop reports that residents in the West Sussex village of Balcombe have raised enough money to go to the Court of Appeal in their campaign against oil exploration in the village.

Views sought on small-scale fracking plan for West Newton well site. DrillOrDrop reports the Environment Agency has begun a consultation on plans for reservoir stimulation, also known as a proppant squeeze or small-scale frack, at Rathlin Energy’s West Newton-A oil and gas site in East Yorkshire.

UK Oil and Gas plc (UKOG) raises £0.5m for hydrogen storage site. UKOG announces it has raised £0.5m in a share placing. The money will be used to bid for a salt cavern storage site in East Yorkshire.

Top award for lawyer in landmark legal challenge on oil emissions. DrillOrDrop reports that Estelle Dehon, the lawyer representing campaigners behind a landmark judgement at the Supreme Court this year, has won a major award.

UK government bans new coal mining licences. The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero reports that the UK will become of the first countries in the world to ban new coal mines. It said the government would bring in new legislation to restrict licences for new mines in the UK.

Emissions campaigner named as climate leader. DrillOrDrop reports that Sarah Finch, the campaigner who won a landmark victory on carbon emissions at the Supreme Court earlier this year, has been named by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most innovative leaders driving climate change.

Wressle permission quashed. DrillOrDrop reports that planning permission at the Wressle field near Scunthorpe has been quashed in another casualty of the landmark Supreme Court judgement on climate emissions.

UK PM commitments to carbon emission cuts of 81%. DrillOrDrop reports Keir Starmer’s announcement at the COP29 climate conference of future UK emissions cuts.

Netherlands appeal court overturns landmark climate lawsuit against Shell. DrillOrDrop reports on the judgement of the Netherlands appeal court which allowed Shell’s appeal against a 2021 judgement on reducing carbon emissions by 45% by 2030.

Star Energy sells former oil terminal. Star Energy said in a statement that it had exchanged contracts with Pickerings Hire Limited in a £6.3m deal for the site of the now decommissioned Holybourne Oil Terminal at Alton in Hampshire.

Legal challenge begins to oil and gas field consents. The BBC, among others, reports on the start of the legal challenge brought by Greenpeace and Uplift against consents for the Rosebank oil field and Jackdaw gas field.

Europa commits to environmental assessment of Burniston drilling. DrillOrDrop reports that Europa Oil & Gas has promised to carry out a detailed study of the environmental impact of its plans to drill on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast, despite a ministerial ruling that the assessment is not needed.
