Environmental groups and anti-fracking campaigners have welcomed yesterday’s report by South Downs National Park planners which recommended rejection of a planning application by Celtique Energie to drill an exploratory oil well at Fernhurst.

West Sussex Highways Authority has withdrawn its objection to Celtique Energie’s planning application to drill an exploratory oil well at Fernhurst. The authority submitted a revised response to the application on August 26th after the company produced extra information, including a traffic management plan.
28th August 2014 The largest number of signatories for an e-petition calling for West Sussex to become a frack-free zone came from parts of the county where there are plans for exploratory oil drilling or a new well was drilled recently.
A petition calling for West Sussex to be declared a frack free zone has secured enough signatures to force a council debate.
