The South Downs National Park Authority announced today it will discuss the planning application by Celtique Energie to drill an exploratory oil well at Fernhurst on Thursday September 11th.
The application will go before the Authority’s planning committee, which meets at the South Downs Centre in Midhurst.
The planning officer’s report for the application will be published by at least Thursday 4th September. This will recommend to the planning committee whether the application should be approved or rejected.
Last month, an application by Celtique Energie to drill an exploratory well between Wisborough Green and Kirdford was rejected by the planning committee of West Sussex County Council after the planning officer recommended refusal.
At Fernhurst, the company is applying for a temporary three-year permission to drill a vertical borehole at Nice Acre Copse. The application also includes proposals for access roads and soil bunds.
The planning committee meeting will hear from up to three people who oppose the application and three who support it. A member of Fernhurst and Lynchmere Parish Councils, a local district councillor and the local county councillor will also be allowed to speak.
Public seating is limited to 120 and people wishing to attend must apply for a place using an online form by no later than 12 noon on Friday 5th September.
