Residents in a North Yorkshire village where there are plans for lower-volume fracking have called on the energy minister to apologise over claims he made about the process.
Parish councillors voted by 8 to nil to object to plans for gas exploration and small-scale hydraulic fracturing in the North Yorkshire village of Burniston. About 100 people attending an extraordinary meeting last night also unanimously opposed the scheme in a show-of-hands.
A gas company that criticised campaigners for using the word ‘fracking’ for a well operation in North Yorkshire used the same term for the same process in correspondence with officials.
Around 250 people took part in a march on Saturday (22 March 2025) against plans to explore for gas in the village of Burniston, near the North York Moors National Park.
