The largest earth tremor induced by fracking at Cuadrilla’s shale gas site near Blackpool was recorded this evening.
The maximum strength of tremors induced by new fracking at Cuadrilla’s Preston New Road site has been estimated at 3.1ML, the company said in a document published today.
The government appears to be standing firm against industry pressure for a review of the regulations on earth tremors caused by fracking.
Two scientists have said the rules on fracking-induced earth tremors could be relaxed with little risk to people.
The British Geological Survey has reported a 0.5 magnitude earth tremor this afternoon near Cuadrilla’s fracking site on the edge of Blackpool. There was also a 0.4M tremor and two micro-seismic events.
