Councillors and campaigners in Lancashire are calling on the government to halt fracking at Cuadrilla’s shale gas near Blackpool following a series of earth tremors of increasing strength.
Cuadrilla had to stop fracking again this morning because of another earth tremor – the biggest recorded so far.
Cuadrilla’s current fracking site in Lancashire passed a milestone on Friday.
A 0.8 magnitude earth tremor was recorded today near Cuadrilla’s fracking site at Preston New Road on the edge of Blackpool.
The government should refuse consent for Third Energy’s fracking plans in North Yorkshire, campaigners said this morning in response to publication of the company’s annual accounts.
Cuadrilla confirmed this evening there was a 0.3ML earth tremor during fracking this afternoon at its Preston New Road shale gas site near Blackpool.
The British Geological Survey has reported a 0.5 magnitude earth tremor this afternoon near Cuadrilla’s fracking site on the edge of Blackpool. There was also a 0.4M tremor and two micro-seismic events.
A crowd estimated at more than 1,000 shouted “Cuadrilla go home” at a climate rally outside the company’s fracking site near Blackpool today.
The British Geological Survey recorded a small earth tremor today near Cuadrilla’s fracking site on the edge of Blackpool. This follows three micro-seismic events yesterday.
The energy minister who promotes economic benefits of shale gas has not visited a site, she said this week. She also appears to have back-tracked on hints that she might relax rules on earthquakes induced by fracking.
