East Sussex County Council has rejected calls for a ban on fracking in the county. This morning the lead cabinet member for transport and environment, Carl Maynard, turned down a request in a petition calling for the refusal of any attempt at fracking in East Sussex.

Concerns inevitable but regulation will make fracking safe, MPs told The new environment secretary, Elizabeth Truss, told MPs this afternoon that people could have confidence in fracking because, with proper regulation, it was safe and had a low impact on the environment.
After months of shying away from debates about fracking, the onshore oil and gas industry now wants to talk. The industry body UK Onshore Oil and Gas (UKOOG) is inviting people to submit questions about shale to its new Talk about shale website.
