Updates – August 20th

To Timeline August 2013

Sussex Police say 10 people arrested yesterday outside the Cuadrilla site at Balcombe have been charged. Nine were charged with offences under Section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 and one with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. They will appear before Crawley Magistrates on September 4th. The police say three men and a 15-year-old girl were released after cautions and a further 15 others were bailed to return to Crawley Police Station later this  month. http://www.sussex.police.uk/pressline/2013/08/20/charge-and-bail-details-for-balcombe-arrests

Sussex Police denies accusations of heavy-handed  tactics and the use of “kettles” outside Cuadrilla’s site yesterday,  in response to complaints from No Dash for Gas. Supt Lawrence Hobbs says: “There is a Section 14 order in place along the road for 600m and at the entrances to the Cuadrilla site and an unconnected business park. This does not prevent free movement through the area, but a number of arrests were made yesterday of people who would not leave the area when legally directed to do so.”  http://www.sussex.police.uk/pressline/2013/08/20/balcombe-policing-update

To Fracking the truth – Does fracking bring down gas prices?

Cuadrilla officially told residents at a community drop-in session  on the proposed Clifton well on July 23, 2013:  “As an untapped energy resource, natural gas from shale has the potential to boost the UK’s gas production, reduce the UK’s dependency on expensive foreign energy sources and to lower gas prices.” Exhibition panels (see page 3) at http://www.cuadrillaresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Boards-july-13-s6-FW.pdf
