Pictures: Protests outside INEOS councillor briefings

Senior staff from INEOS held private meetings with parish councillors in Cheshire, Derbyshire and North Yorkshire this week to explain the company’s plans to explore for shale gas.  Opponents of fracking held demonstrations outside the meetings at Frodsham and Malton. Look out for our reports on issues raised at the meetings and INEOS’s proposals.

  1. An update on my comment yesterday. Again today brilliant news that the UK, this morning, generated NO electricity from coal. To my knowledge this is the first time in daytime that this has happened. The other side of the coin, is that over 50% of our electricity came from the burning of gas. Gas-fired stations have been operating almost flat-out since the beginning of winter last. I’m worried we’re going to have breakdowns next winter and will be left short. 3000 people die each year from cold homes (Greenpeace data), not sure how may more if there are electricity supply problems. The government say they will close down industry rather than create blackouts for the general public which must be a good thing.
