The shale gas company, IGas, announced this morning it had begun drilling its well at Tinker Lane near Blyth in north Nottinghamshire.

News of the spud, which came in a brief statement to investors, follows a protest which blocked the site entrance for more than 80 hours over the weekend.

Two people locked themselves together outside the gate at about 6am on Friday (23 November 2018).

Nottinghamshire Police began removing the lock-on device yesterday morning (26 November 2018).

The protest ended at about 3pm yesterday.

A police spokesperson said a 45-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway. At the time of writing, the police could not confirm whether the two had been charged. Photos below by Eddie Thornton and Tina English

The Tinker Lane site has the first shale gas well to be drilled in Nottinghamshire. IGas describes it as a “vertical multi-core well targeting a number of formations with the primary target being the Bowland Shale geological formation”.

  1. More rubbish from DriporDribble. The site was not blocked. Videos show the workers coming and going over the week-end. All necessary equipment required was already on site and work continued as normal. They knew what they were doing as it had no impact whatsoever [edited by moderator]

  2. What is it with you angry people? We get that you must all be mightily upset about the way your project is struggling, but try at least to retain some dignity.

If you don’t like this site don’t visit it.
If you have issues with content state them politely.
If you can’t behave like a grown up take some time out and give your head a little wobble.

        • Hi Refracktion, yes,

          Ha! Ha!

Dignity? Dignity is somewhat difficult with the industries dirty sticky hands stuck up their….available cavities? Should have cut and cleaned their nails at least?

Isnt dignity one of those capabilities that require a modicum of intellectual and emotional stability and some experience of responsible adult behaviour?

Not exactly anti anti strong points, and come to think of it, never has been?

They are getting increasingly fractious…..interesting word……since fracking and its associated avoidances of the word operations are all going shakey wobbly belly up and getting no progress on the running cap in hand to the government roll over and play dead rubber stamp department?

I think GBH cracked mirror has long since fled the scene as did the reversed Dorian Blue portrait run off to join the others in Westminster and even those are departing to “greener” pastures?

You can hardly blame them can you?

    • “If you don’t like this site don’t visit it.”

Same rationale ought therefore to apply to rent-a-mob visiting O&G sites.

        • I recall crembrule, that IR8 was saying something quite appropriate in that respect a while ago?

Some long self justification tirade about saying what he pleased any time he liked whether anyone liked it or not?

Then by his own “logic” we can do the same cant we?

Something about giving someone enough rope there i think isnt there?

    • Yes it is a bit rich reflection, if you don’t like it don’t visit the site, which works on so many different levels be it physical or digital…

On second thoughts if you stand by that statement…

IF you don’t like Gas don’t use it. I’d have a lot of respect for you if you did do as you say and lived in some cut off community which lives by its beliefs…

      http://amishamerica.com/becoming-amish/

Sorry did a bit more research, the Amish do use Gas…

If they don’t use electricity, how can the Amish sometimes have water heaters, stoves and refrigerators in their homes? First, the Amish use gas in many of these instances. Many appliances that they run on electricity can be converted to run on natural gas, propane or white gas.

The same can be said for vegan activists

Is this directed at the protesters?

  3. No, we don’t reaction. Unless you are suggesting having gone from no moderator to one moderator, you and some of your anti friends, would like there to be a more co-op approach. Would the co-op approach ban posters you have “identified” as being “foreign”? Or “investors”, or “less intelligent”, or “climate change deniers”? ( I have left out the more extreme.)

We quite understand that Igas spudding has to be displayed as all about two individuals who heroically achieved-nothing, whilst Igas moved on. Some of us are just a bit more interested in the moving on.

  4. The protesters achieved nothing what so ever. The police left them there as there was no necessity to move them, and when there was, they were moved.

  5. If certain people do not like what they read on Drill or Drop, please by all means stop reading it. If you do not like a programme on TV, would you watch it just so that you could write in to complain? Personally I like reading Drill or Drop whether the news is good or otherwise.

  6. if [you – edited by moderator] are so passionate come to gates and protest our protest…..or just carry on hiding behind your keyboards leave the real work to the real men and women who have the guts to stand up.

  7. Don’t worry reaction. We quite understand your love for diesel and your sensitivity surrounding the issue. I suffer similarly regarding chocolate biscuits.

Even Achilles had his heel, so you are in good company-unless you check the end of the story!

    • Yawn. I’d say you were becoming tedious Merton but that happened some time ago. I have two heels. I think Achilles did too.

You spend far too much time hectoring people on here – you know what happened to Hector don’t you?
