Egdon Resources says it is giving more details this week of its new plans to explore for gas near a village in North Yorkshire.
The company wants to drill a well on the edge of Foxholes, south of Scarborough and inland from Flamborough Head.

It announced it is hosting a drop-in information event in the village on Friday 30 May 2025.
Egdon said the event aimed to give local people an opportunity to:
- Find out more about the plans
- Meet the project team
- Complete a feed-back form
Information about the meeting said Egdon had found a 1ha site on land east of Foxholes village, near the B1249.
The site is 15 miles south of Burniston, where Egdon has a stake in other plans for gas drilling and a form of hydraulic fracturing.
Egdon said in February 2025 that it had no plans for any form of fracturing at Foxholes.
The Foxholes site is about 1.5km from the edge of the proposed protected area of the Yorkshire Wolds. It is also close to the county boundary with East Yorkshire.
Egdon said the site needed to be “within reach” of the Sherwood sandstone gas reservoir “whilst avoiding protected designations and minimising any impact the development may have on local people”.
The company said:
“We are keen to work with residents of Foxholes and the neighbouring villages to listen to any concerns and to address them in the planning application.”

North Yorkshire Council planners ruled earlier this year that Egdon’s Foxholes proposal would have no significant environmental impact and a planning application would not need an environmental impact assessment (EIA).
The information event is on Friday 30 May 2025 at Foxholes Community Hall, 3 Eastfield, Foxholes, 2pm-6pm.
Egdon said people could give feedback at the event or online between Friday 30 May and Friday 13 June 2025.
The company said information about the proposal and a link to the form was on its website (www.egdon-community.com). At the time of writing, we could not find it.
Feedback to Egdon does not replace the formal public consultation, organised by North Yorkshire Council
This would be announced after any planning application had been validated. Egdon said it expected to submit an application in early July 2025.
