Happy Christmas 2025 from DrillOrDrop

The DrillOrDrop team wishes all our readers a very happy Christmas.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to our independent journalism in the past 12 months.

We’re very grateful for your donations, images, guest posts and article suggestions, as well as corrections and criticisms. Much of our work this year would not have been possible without your support and guidance.

2025 has seen a renewed debate about fracking, particularly with lower-volume operations proposed for Burniston, Wressle and West Newton.

Among the key issues are how should fracking be defined and should all fracking, regardless of volume, be banned.

We’ve also seen more discussion on decommissioning onshore oil and gas sites and continued repercussions from the 2024 landmark legal judgement from the Supreme Court in the case brought by Sarah Finch against Surrey County Council.

Between Christmas and New Year, we will publish our annual review and we’ll look ahead to key events expected in 2026.

Next year, DrillOrDrop will continue to report independently on the UK onshore oil and gas industry, regulation and campaign activity.
