An anti-fracking protest that lasted nearly 100 hours caused travel disruption and incurred extra costs for Lancashire Police and the shale gas company, Preston Crown Court heard this afternoon.
A crowd of about 60 people, many holding red Lancashire roses, gathered outside the law courts in Preston this morning, where four men who took part in an anti-fracking protest are to be sentenced for public nuisance offences.
About 50 people from the West Sussex village of Balcombe joined a protest this morning against imminent tests at a nearby oil site.
The shale gas company, IGas, has been criticised for treating communities with “disrespect and contempt” after serving a High Court injunction on two residents’ groups.

A Ryedale grandmother, who chained herself to the entrance of Third Energy’s fracking site with a Reclaim Democracy banner, said she did it to “prevent serious harm”.
