On Wednesday January 14th, anti-fracking campaigners representing groups from across the UK lobbied their MPs in the House of Commons.
They urged MPs to support amendments to the bill, including those being proposed by Caroline Lucas (Green, Brighton Pavilion) and Norman Baker (Liberal Democrat, Lewes) which call for the removal of clauses which would make fracking easier. Dr Lucas is also calling for a ban on fracking.
Caroline Lucas said:
“This lobby has shown that people really care about the Government’s push for shale oil and gas. They want their MPs to represent their concerns on fracking. My amendments reflect the concerns I have heard and would not only delete the change to trespass laws but also prohibit fracking altogether.”
Brenda Pollack, Friends of the Earth South East Campaigner, said:
“We fully support residents’ concerns over this proposed legislation. The Government is keen to make it easier for fracking companies to drill for oil and gas using new techniques that are highly risky. People don’t want their land to be a test ground for extracting ever more difficult to reach fossil fuels.”
Victoria Dorman, a resident of Mayfield in East Sussex said:
“The Government should not be passing any legislation that allows companies to drill underneath our homes and land without permission. I wanted my MP to know how strongly we feel locally about this issue and to ask him to vote to improve the Bill and cut the clauses which virtually give carte blanche to fracking companies.”

It is a crime against the people if MPs allow the changes to ‘Trespass Law’ that will give the rights to sanction Fracking to take place under your home and land. Nearly 75% of people are against this change but the politicians as usual are taking no notice. The Fracking corporations will not tell the people what chemicals are being used, but what has been leaked to the media, they are carcinogenic which is an agent directly involved in causing cancer. This is due to the ability to damage the genome or to the disruption of cellular metabolic processes. Therefore we risk long-term health problems going into many generations that the NHS will not be able to financially support. Indeed, the NHS costs will far outweigh the short-term gain from Fracking, as in the case of the USA, it costs as much to get it out of the ground as conventional oil extraction according to independent research. Therefore we are sacrificing short-term gain again on the altar of major human health problems in the future that can affect the families of MPs just as much as any UK citizen. Look further is my advice and undertake your independent research before our MPs vote for yet another future diabolical human disaster waiting to happen. The facts do not lie – ‘ Shale Gas Fracking – just another big Con on the British People that will create more problems eventually than any so-called benefits?’ – http://worldinnovationfoundation.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/shale-gas-fracking-just-another-big-con.html
