  1. Incorrect details aren’t helpful. Just before the w/e INEOS changed the time of its Chesterfield meeting today from afternoon to morning. Impossible for some of us to change our plans so quickly.

  2. What happened on Tuesday? For a period of a few hours, the UK generated no electricity from coal, the first time in the electricity era.. So we’re well on the to meeting HMG targets of removing coal fired generation.

The other side of the same coin was that this week the National Grid had to issue a “Notice of Inadequate Supply Margin” because of electricity supply margin shortages, due to old power station breakdowns , a measure which has only been used twice in the last decade and never at this time of year. Reserve capacity had to be brought on stream at very high cost. Fills you with confidence for next winter doesn’t it? But forget the frail and elderly, worry about rising sea levels.

    • More CCGT needed ASAP. Currently gas providing 53%, nuclear 20%, coal 6% of our electricity. The rest from renewables, mainly wind approximately 10% and biomass 6%.
