The government’s consultation about how new oil and gas licences may affect the UK’s most important sites for wildlife appears to breach good practice guidelines – and has been criticised by a leading nature conservation organisation.
The latest government information shows five onshore oil and gas wells were completed in the UK in first half of 2015. This is two fewer than for the same time last year and four down on 2013.
What is it? The Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) has taken over some regulatory functions from the Department of Energy and Climate Change for the onshore and offshore oil and gas industry in the UK.
