The map below shows the exclusion zone which was a condition of police bail for campaigners arrested at the Cuadrilla site in Balcombe in July. It included the railway line between Brighton and London. The police gave one campaigner arrested on July 26th a travel warrant to travel home on the train, even though this was in breach of bail conditions.
Lydia Dagostino, who represents some of the campaigners, described the condition as “disproportionate” and “a clear interference in the right of people to protest peacefully”.
At a hearing at Crawley Magistrates Court on August 14th Sussex Police proposed a smaller exclusion zone shown in the map below.
The magistrates also rejected this area and gave all the campaigners unconditional bail.
