The Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust (JRRT) has awarded a grant to DrillOrDrop to report on planning decisions for fracking and conventional oil and gas planning applications.
The grant runs for 18 months and supports a new project by DrillOrDrop to provide independent, consistent, comprehensive and accurate journalism on the planning application process.
Called Rig Watch, the project will report on both the decisions and the reasons given for approval or rejection. We’ll be attending planning meetings across the UK. And where decisions are challenged in appeals or judicial reviews, we’ll be there too.
The grant will fund travel, and where necessary, overnight accommodation.
All the Rig Watch reports will be posted on DrillOrDrop. We’ve created a page on the menu which will have quick links to the reports.
The JRRT promotes democratic reform, civil liberties and social justice. An objective of Rig Watch is to provide useful information to communities and individuals who want to make a comment, whether in favour or against oil and gas applicatons.
DrillOrDrop’s policy of taking no advertising or sponsorship continues, as does our commitment not to take funding from industry, regulators or campaign groups.
Invitation to Byline
DrillOrDrop has been invited to join Byline, a crowd-funded news platform for independent journalism.
Starting next weekend, we’ll be writing a weekly newsletter about fracking and the onshore oil and gas industry.
Byline aims to put journalists directly in contact with readers, avoiding the need for proprietors or advertisers.
We’ll continue to post all our stories on DrillOrDrop.
