On Friday (20 May) councillors in North Yorkshire will meet to decide whether to approve what could be the UK’s first fracked shale gas well for more than five years.
In a statement issued tonight Rasik Valand, Chief Executive of Third Energy, said:
Opponents of shale gas have appealed to county councillors in North Yorkshire to overrule planners and refuse Third Energy’s application to frack at Kirby Misperton, in Ryedale.
Plans by Third Energy to frack an existing well near the North Yorkshire village of Kirby Misperton have been recommended for approval.
The energy minister, Andrea Leadsom, promised today there would be “no compromise” on taking account of the views of local communities on fracking.
