What’s in the words? Just come across news of the new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit in he centre of Gateshead. It runs a couple of CHP gas powered electricity generating turbines described by the operators as “low carbon” and the waste heat from the operation is used close-by to heat houses and businesses. It attracts an incentive electricity price of over £80. So as long as you manage to keep an image as “low carbon” and emphasise the re-use of waste, you can build in the middle of town no problem. How about that for Blackpool, providing cheap heating to its B&B’s.
It reminds me a little of a leaflet I got from East Sussex explaining what they do with the recycled rubbish, well they sort and sell on what they can, but the rest is used as a “high calorific fuel” – oh that’s OK then as long as you don’t burn it!
Just noticed, the unit above is called the Gateshead District Energy Centre…..”thank God it’s not a power station – that would so bad,…. like poison the water… really awful…like kill everything …why can’t people just leave nature alone …like in the olden days.. I’d like a windmill in my garden, that would be so cool ..then we could have all the energy as we wanted… un maybe a log fire for winter…we could cut down our logs and be really cosy.”
