In the past hour Lancashire County Council planners recommended approval of Cuadrilla’s application to frack at Preston New Road but recommended refusal of the other application for frackng at Roseacre Woodon traffic grounds. Breaking news
Stand up for people
Furqan Naeem, of Friends of the Earth, urged Lancashire County Councillors to stand up for local people
“We are disappointed that the planners have recommended one of the sites should go ahead. But at the end of the day it is the councillors who represent the people and they have come out against fracking. This is a really big decision for the rest of the UK, not just for Lancashire. We just hope it does not go ahead and the councillors stand up for the people”
Local democracy is working
Lee Petts, owner of the waste management company, Remsol, which works with Cuadrilla, welcomed the recommendation of approval for Preston New Road.
“We are pleased to see local officers making local decisions. It is disappointing that they have not recommended approval for the other site. But it shows that Lancashire County Council has been very cautious in its approach, which should be welcomed and demonstrates that local democracy is working her.”
