A committee of MPs called today for a moratorium on fracking in the UK. The cross-party Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) said fracking was inconsistent with the UK’s legal duties to limit global climate change.It also said fracking should be halted because of uncertainties about other risks to the environment.
Scotland and deep-level access The climate change minister, Amber Rudd, announced the government intended to introduce an amendment at the Report Stage of the Bill to remove Scotland from the provisions on the right to use deep level land for drilling.
MPs are being urged to demand the full release of a redacted government report on the impact of fracking on the rural economy.

Bristol University has published a report on the seismic effects of Cuadrilla’s drilling at Balcombe during the summer. The report found many sources of seismic noise. One of the biggest was the London to Brighton railway line, which runs alongside the site.
