UK onshore oil and gas production in figures and charts – April 2025

UK onshore gas volumes fell for the fourth consecutive month in April 2025. Production was the lowest for 18 months, down 23% on March 2025.

The fall was largely because of continued falling production at the largest onshore field, Saltfleetby, as well as lower volumes at Albury and from several of the vents from disused coalmines.

There was a small increase in the daily rate of oil production. The monthly volume and weight of onshore oil fell slightly – but not as much as would have been expected because of the shorter month in April.

There was a 36% drop in the volume of gas flared at onshore sites. This was the lowest figure since March 2022. The fall was largely because of a fall in volume, and flaring, at Singleton and Wressle.

Yesterday, the Saltfleetby operator, Angus Energy, blamed variable production in the first quarter of 2025 for missing the first payment on its £20m loan. The company also said a booster compressor, installed at Saltfleetby in April, had increased production by 15% above previous forecasts.

Non-producing fields

Oil

The April 2025 data shows there was no production at 14 UK onshore oilfields. This was the same number and fields as in the months December 2024-March 2025.

The non-producing fields were again:

  • Angus Energy: Lidsey
  • Britnrg Limited: Newton-on-Trent
  • Heyco (formerly Egdon Resources): Dukes Wood, Fiskerton Airfield, Keddington, Kirklington, Waddock Cross
  • HHDL/UKOG: Horse Hill
  • Star Enery (formerly IGas): Avington, Egmanton, Nettleham, Scampton, South Leverton, Stainton

Gas

There was no production from 15 onshore fields in April 2025, according to the data. This was two more than in March 2025. The additional non-producing fields were the sites at Hatfield Moor.

The non-producing fields were:

  • Heyco: Kirkleatham
  • EP UK Investments: Humbly Grove
  • Ineos: Airth, Doe Green
  • Infinis Energy: coal mine vents at Askern, Florence, Gedling, Kings Mill Hospital, Mansfield, Newmarket, Prince of Wales, Sherwood and Whitwell
  • Scottish Power: Hatfield Moor and Hatfield Moor gas storage
